Goldenwest Accepting Donations For Local Food Banks
OGDEN, UT: September 30, 2011 – Goldenwest Credit Union and members of the Utah Giant Pumpkin Growers are teaming up to help feed families in need.
Goldenwest set a goal to collect as many donations pound-for-pound at their branches as the largest locally produced pumpkin this year. Matt McConkie broke the state record with his 1600 lbs pumpkin, and the challenge is on!
Goldenwest branch locations will serve as food and monetary donation collection centers to benefit the Utah Food Bank. Monetary donations are also accepted via credit cards and/or debit card on the Goldenwest website at www.gwcu.org. Members of the community, schools, civic organizations and local businesses are invited to participate in this event.
Last fiscal year, the Utah Food Bank provided 30.8 million pounds of food, the equivalent of more than 23 million meals, to Utah families and individuals. A recent study conducted by Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, stated that 15.1 percent of Utahns are dealing with food insecurity in their homes.
